Why would I not just buy an old moddable Nintendo Switch then or wait for the modchip for later (starting 2018) revisions? Exactly, there is no fucking reason.
I mean, the Switch supports Ubuntu and Android as well, so this adds nothing in value at a price way above $/€/£100...

The SD card contains Raspbian, therefore it probably uses EXT4. Windows can't use this, therefore you can't put the games directly into the sd

dude ... linus .. 'it's not powered on' ... oh no, but it's SOFT BUTTON so it IS POWERED ON as soon as the battery is connected.. it's only in stand-by, which is NOT powered off, it's the same as putting your pc in hibernate/poweroff (which are the same regarding powermode), and the starting to work on the motherboard without disconnecting the power cable ... your PSU is still powered on and it's still sending power to the motherboard! with a pc your either disconnect the cord of set the swithc on the psu to off

Well I gotta say I was darn excited at first. I mean, it sure LOOKS good! And a DYI console with no soldering? Sounds like a winner to me (even though I don't mind soldering.)
But then what happens? Well, kinda clunky usage and build, kinda slow, kinda lacking bluetooth, kinda lacking HDMI, and "only" $250! ... Right. Ah well, who cares for "Truth in advertising" and "Oversell" anyway? It sure LOOKS good! (Thanks for testing it for us.) ;)

Converted to Canadian at $398. Um. Wow. I can happily bodge together a more sturdy handheld device for less, without the bs. I think we are all enough familiar with the pi to understand how much markup bs this product has undergone. Boutique iterations of pi based devices is so much for the wannabe retro sock-headed hipsters, it's just mock-worthy.

I feel like modding a new 2DS XL or new 3DS XL to run emulators would be a better idea, especially considering the new models have 4 shoulder buttons, better specs than the original and 2 analogue sticks

Seems cool and all, but its pretty stupid that we get a handheld gaming console for the pi before we get a handheld umpc for one. Of course there are project files for it but to my knowledge no prebuilt kit
The GPD win is the closest you get but thats a lot more expensive and isnt a pi.

I prefer my minipc with a intel j1800. Looks exactly like a console. Two usb ports on the front, a bluetooth dongle on the back, an full hdmi port, usb 3 port on the back, wifi, lan, speaker port... It´s not portable but a incredible console like experience for retrogaming.

The reason you can't plug the sdcard into your laptop is because it's a Linux filesystem - which windows does not natively support. You can work around this with a 3rd party drive or booting Linux off a USB stick
