One more piece of missing information, maybe ignorant and maybe intentional: there are quite a few other minority groups in Xinjiang. Considering the U.S. handling of Iraq, Uighurs will just become the next dictator/oppression if they come into power. Of course, the U.S. won't care at that point as long as it's the U.S. sponsored.

As a Chinese natinality, I've always been awear of these kind of persecution taken by the ruling CPC, but we do not have the actual right to fight against the fucking system! We do not even have the chance to take to the street peacefully, although we are entitled to the right of free speech and protesting as it says in the stupid fake constitution! To put it simply, we are just another version of North Korea, only that we have more food and more crowded mega cities filled with low income workers from the suburb serving the fucking rich. CPC's tactic had always been this----denying the fact that there is massive human rights abuse under it's rule, therefore it doesn't need to address the problem, because they just don't have the ball to admit all of it. sooo pathetic! Also, most Chinese living in the mainland have been successfully brainwashed, and they do not give a damn about what's happening to ethnic groups like the Uighur people! All they care about is money and more money…… feeling so helpless whenever I think about all these shit happenning in here.

you make many fair points. i do not know enough about Xinjiang and have never been there. but I do know they posed big domestic concerns on security in the past. some of them participated in terrorism, drug dealing, robbery, etc in many parts of china. and there are many social, economic reasons behind that. on the other hand, there are some hidden radicals who were behind the terrorism and are influencing ordinary people to do bad things. These are some reasons why they were educated. However, I do agree it doesn't justify reeducation of the whole ethnic group, if they are really doing it. Although I do believe there may be a few such camps, i do not think there are so many contained in the camps as reported. The government would most likely only camp those who are at risks. it doesn't make economic sense to camp so many at a time.
I understand the criticism about this and I agree your points are right, but imagine what you could do in such situations when there is one group in your country that gives you headache and problems (of course most of them are good). I am talking about things like murders, robberies, drug dealing, terrorism, and even damaging rebellions/riots

even though i don't drive a vw nor wear nikes, people want them and use them with no idea of how they were made. capitalist consumerism driven cognitive dissonance is such a cozy place to live. "just do it" takes on a whole new meaning. if we in the usa, where we took other's land, reeducated their children, and made others to work it in bondage, cannot finally understand, and change; so that we might emphasize with another's loss of freedom, which we theoretically hold so dear. Nevermind the fucked up Chinese Communist Party, wtf is up with us. Both of our countries could benefit from targeted and systematic reforms.

This video is a typical western propaganda. All the blabbering without presenting any concrete evidence. Only people who are ignorant of geopolitical struggle between west and china will swallow this propaganda piece without taking a pinch of salt. westerners can't even convince their muslim allies like Saudi Arabia,UAE, Qatar etc. So try little harder
    0.51
Just like the term Islamophobia the term innocent muslim is an oxymoron.
    1.17 / 2.01 / 4.11
    1. Uighur are an ethnic group. In order to wipe out uighur culture they have to prosecute all uighur not just muslim uighur. but that is not the case. So your assumption is wrong.
    2. They are not putting any hui muslims in re education camps. so they're not trying to eliminate muslims either. you have to find a different criteria may be radicalism?
    1.35 /15.16 / 2.42 / 15.35 /12.42
1.No concrete evidence presented to prove your claim.
2.80k people moving out of Xinjiang which has a population of 12 million in a period of 2 year is not abnormal. That is only .0066 percentage of total population.
    3. Census data shows that uighur population is increased considerably within last 50 years. They are not even subjected to one child policy.
    1.44 / 16.47
According to CNN news, WORD UIGHUR CONGRESS calculated that " 1 million" uighur are in re education camps in china and submitted their reports to UN COMMITTEE ON ELIMINATION OF RACIAL DISCRIMINATION. World uighur congress is an organization funded by NATIONAL ENDOWMENT FOR DEMOCRACY, a CIA organisation. But according to omer kanat the Chairman of the Executive Committee of world uighur congress they got the "1 million" number from western media.

1.According to forensic science a witness account is the least credible evidence.here, on the surface the it may look very real and sad.the baby wiping tears off the face of her mother. but any sane person can't ignore the fact that people can Act, manipulate, lie, and exaggerate for their economic religious political cause.
    2. A Satellite imagery can't prove ethnic cleansing. It can only prove some structures are being built or destroyed.
3.having barbed wire doesn't prove its a prison. Barbed wire can be use to prevent escape of prisoners or can be used to prevent trespassing by strangers. Here in India, even some schools have barbed wire for the protection of children.
    4. You have to prove the authenticity of the such document. Chinese communist party denied existence of such documents.
    3.00 / 14.51
1.Workers from Xinjiang doesn't mean they are uighur. In Xinjiang, only 45% of the population is uighur.
2.you didn't present any evidence of forced labour.those clips doesn't contain any evidence of forced labour
    4.40
Hijab is a religious dress usually worn by conservative muslims. So they can decide not promote such patriarchal misogynist symbol for free in their society. It doesn't affect religious freedom of a person in the middle East.
    6.23
1.You don't have any basic idea about Xinjiang or muslim.islamic terrorism and separatism is not a problem that only affect Xinjiang. It also affect areas like kashmir in india, north Caucasus region(dangestan)in Russia, Mindanao in philippines, malay patani region in Thailand, Rakhine in Myanmar, even Europe suffer from islamic terrorism after the arrival of muslim refugees.all non muslim majority countries that have significant muslim population are dealing with islamic insurgency.
    2. Many of these problems started in 1990's when Taliban came to power in Afghanistan with the help of your country USA after you people helped to overthrow a secular socialist government backed by Soviet union.that incident gave an impetus to radical Islamist all over the world. so don't shed your crocodile tears here, you people started all of this. Xinjiang border with Afghanistan. Xinjiang deals with islamic insurgency since 90's. The basic problem is religious fundamentalism of muslims and support of western government to those terrorist for political reasons.
    6.50 / 19.20
    1. Religious people are already brainwashed by their society and ready to kill innocent people for their fairy tales. CPP is just trying to put some sense into these idiots brain. That is not brainwashing.
    2. Re education and re radicalization is lot better than western way of war and freedom bombs.
    7.20
1.dont only blame china for mass surveillance. London had more surveillance cameras than any other city in the world.
So Don't be a hypocrite. Look yourself in the mirror before blaming others.
    10.07
1.You don't have to be from future to prevent terrorist attack. You can do it by simply observing potential terrorist that is what security agencies across the world do.
    2. There are many ways to identify potential terrorist. I will give you 2 criteria.. Association with mosque, people, organisation which promotes radicalism and accessing website promoting terrorism.

      1) Muslims are not one single community and there are significant divides.
      2) Why would islamophobia and innocent muslim be an oxymoron?
      3) An increase over F I F T Y years is an argument against forced recent practices sterilization?
      4) Witness accounts may, according to you, be the least credible. But what if one collects countless witness accounts that together become systematic?
      5) Barbed wire may not be a definite indicator for prison structures, but complemented with witness accounts they do.
      6) You ignore the fact that the most significant parts of Muslim countries and Muslims in the West do not affiliate with any act of terrorism or violence and are strictly against it, but are living in mostly destabilised countries because of a) foreign interventions, b) a radical regime in power, c) have rivaling radical extremist groups weak authorities often cannot cope with, d) live in weak democracies. That, in fact, indicates islamophobia.
      7) A surge of terrorist activities does not justify inflicting physical and mental harm to innocent people.
      8) Not all religious people are brainwashed maniacs, or do you equal Christians and Buddhists to systematically conduct same activities supposedly intrinsic to religion?
      9) Nobody on this side justifies foreign interventions.
      10) Is basic surveillance footage in London being systematically searched through by the state executive and putting all people under constant suspicion and threat to arrest? There is qualitative difference between the two surveillance approaches.
      11) Does leaving from the back door indicate a terrorist notion that justifies arrest?

China installed non-permanent IUDs and the Uyghur birth rate is still among the highest in China. The Uyghurs, as an ethnic minority, were never subject to the one-child policy. This is not evidence of genocide. This is simply the difference between having 3-4 chlidren per new state regulations (when prior regulations allowed up to 7 children) and having 5+ children commencing 2017. Authoritarian and pretty terrible, yes, but not genocide.

One interviewee's prejudice 12 years ago is not evidence of ubiquitous anti-Uighur sentiment in China. The group most stereotyped as criminals are actually Han Chinese in Henan province, and even that is a ridiculous stereotype that most Chinese don't believe. Uighur culture is actually positively viewed in China to the point of being rather problematic, much like how Orientalism pervades western depictions of Asia.

The Chinese government is obviously the villain here in this story. Suppose the Uighurs are to prevail, the power vacuum after the Chinese leave will certainly be exploited by different sectarian groups. Remember the Mujahideen who defeated the Soviet Union in Afghanistan and what they became? A probable scenario would be the taking over by the East Turkestan Islamic Movement (rebranded as the more polished The Turkestan Islamic Party) which is the de facto leader of the Xinjiang secessionist movement, also an organization known to have had close ties with groups such as Al-Qaeda. What do you think will happen? Iraq and Syria under ISIS, and Afghanistan under Taliban come to mind?

"aggressively secular" ... please don't taint the word secularism. Aggressive secularism is when a Christian or Muslim theocracy demands you worship *only* their god and so you fight for your rights. What you're looking for is more like anti-religious or some other word we don't have yet. I guess maybe "militant atheism" but actually.
Also terrifying that Trump said the camps were the right thing to do.

    • Blah b
      Blah b 16 tuntia sitten

You might want to look up what the word means. Secularism the separating religion(s) from the state and not allowing religions to have lawmaking powers.
China is agressively secular since any kind of worship is allowed freely, but the moment cults begin to form that demand political loyalty from their members, it gets controlled before it can do damage.
Militant atheism is an oxymoron, ussualy spoken by morons. Atheism has no doctrine and can't be followed by definition. It's the same as saying that he has a very bright hair colour of baldness.

One, the whole society speak politico correctness but treat the minorities as slaves, and one is the minority are rarely charged minor crime for their minoritility and the society don’t really care about politico correctness. Second, if it’s okay to say 911 is because of mistreatments of the Muslim, then it will be okey to say what happens in Xinjiang in 2008 is because of mistreatments. Why Americans call 911 is terrorisim? Because they targeted on innocent people. Why you can say the thing happened in Xinjiang is not terrorisim? They also targeted on innocent people. What in my eye is, the only reason you treat 911 differently is you believe only white people can be innocent.

Seems like a joke every 10 secondes for a subject about concentration camps is a bit overdoing it. It feels like when talking about racial inequality in the US, yall find the way to have a more serious tone, but when it's about Muslims in camps it all becomes the lol festival.

Apparently, Trump also signed the Uyghur Human Rights Policy Act on the same day he was reported to have made the comments of approval mentioned in this video. This is so confusing....

Trump U-turning within 24 hours is nothing new right? It all depends on when the big man phones in from Moscow with the latest orders.

How do you discuss this issue without noting that the People's Republic of China too over the sovereign East Turkestan Republic oin 1949? Xinjang (New Territories) is a name designed to promote cultural genocide. The proper term is Occupied East Turkestan.
At any rate, the Halal organ harvesting and forcing Uyghur girls to spend unsupervised time wiht Han Chinese men should also be mentioned.

Ive loved watching these segments for years now, but John you really got to hire some new joke writers. Am I the only one who watches this solely for the educational value and never actually laughs? I dont think ive ever laughed at one of his jokes but I still enjoy the show

While I am all for equal treatment and respect for all people. And if the world was not divided by the so called race card. Or more importantly the class card. I am all for a global system of stopping such egregious and atrocious actions. But I find it to be off base, until the western countries and western so called businesses are made to pay for the centuries of human rights crimes. That they still do to this very minute. I am truthfully outage and nearly homicidally angry by any such CRIMES. But I honestly can't take this seriously until the west pays for it's global crime spree and really holds up this often touted values. They continuously accuse others of.

Australia think tank... well Australia as a country doesn't get to criticize China when they have kept refugees in squalid and dangerous conditions for years. I wonder how many of them have died from Covid. Can you cover that John?
