We don't need new AMD CPU we need new AMD GPU.

A good test of these high end CPUs would be to compile an android rom. Super taxing on the CPU and everything in between. I would love to see some objective benchmarks as I compile android roms for a living.

I just bought a 3800X. I'll be okay for the next generation at least. What I'm waiting for is the 3000 series GPU's.

I think it would be interesting to see the difference between the highest OC you can get stable with, and without SMT enabled, just because I've barely seen one video doing 3900X without SMT vs 9900K with HT, where 3900X actually performed better in most of the games that where tested

My brother has an i7 4790k running on an MSI z97 PC mate, and is considering upgrading to an AMD 3900x because he feels like his 2080 super is being bottle-necked since he isn't getting the frames he is expecting at 1440p on his 144Hz display (even though in some games the utilization of both the CPU and GPU is at 90%+). Any advice? Should he make the upgrade? Is it being bottle-necked?

I can get my Ryzen 5 3600x up to 4.4Ghz. It just requires 1.38 Volts and it runs a little hot with my Water Cooler at like 60*+ but it’s Runs 4.4Ghz very stable and Iam new to Overclocking so Iam sure someone more skilled could push my CPU to 4.5Ghz or even 4.6Ghz. I think I won the silicone lottery though because when I first got it, it was running 4.0Ghz Stable with Very Little Power and Very Low Temps. I got it as low as 1.12 Volts Before going through Stress Test. I would love to see what Jays2Cents could do with my CPU, I think I got very lucky

I'm running my 6850K at 4.2GHz, so any Ryzen 3 part is an undeniable upgrade in every single area. I guess paying more for lower clocks/IPC on the "HEDT" part compared to mainstream CPUs had some benefit at least..
Though, PCI-E lanes.. that's a different story, and one that shouldn't even be a story at all. Thanks Intel for hurting consumers!

If your unsure of clock speeds with the 3950x then why wouldn't you research the product. There are people who have already done this... Are you not aware of this fact? Clock speeds are incredible.. Period. 4.5 boost is the norm.

Thanks AMD for kicking Intel in the NUTS, otherwise we still would have an 4-core CPU for like 800 dollar in 2023 (The Greedy bastards)
Especially the Motherboard support from AMD is awesome, instead each gen a new socket because it was not "technical possible" (Yeah sure!)

Jay ... I want to see how cool you can get the 3950X to run while beating the hell out of it and what you go with for stability ...

    Two configurations
3950X -- MB $$$ and MAXRAM OVERKILL Configuration WC loop the works max out the memory put in a NVME array PCI 4.0 graphics AMD and then a Nvidia TITAN ... SATURATE THE BUS IF YOU CAN!
3950X - MB and RAM Realistic Memory for home use config with a AIO Overclocked to decently with a Nvidia card ... and if you want to keep it in the custom loop sure go ahead ... but I don't think you are going to get much perf difference between a dual or single loop where one just needs to run through a radiator in between the GPU and CPU if you want to drop whatever your GPU dropping into it ...

I feed my GPU the cooled liquid first then CPU but if I can put a radiator in the middle I do ... little reason for dual res other than looks...

... New threadripper rig? ... oh i have to see what you can do but yeah.. it is not what my home test lab needs ... I use cloud for my virtual playing now because honestly i only need to spend a few bucks vs a few thousand ... the AM4 3950x cores will leave me plenty to run any extended server on the backend little doubt there....

  • custume
    custume 4 kuukautta sitten

Well the socket AM4 can last for ever if AMD like, Intel loves to change sock because ... don't know ...
Technically you can run any CPU in any socket , between the socket and the IC you can redirect all the connections, so if Intel likes they can actually make any "new" CPU to work on old sockets, also there are some Intel CPU´s that work on sockets not "ready" for them.
Intel is stupid to force people to change boards all the time, sure they can fix some things with changes but is silly.

Test idea: Difference in game performance AMD vs. Intel (specs below):
AMD (based off my current system):
CPU: 3700X (locked at 4GHz all cores)
    Memory: 4x8 32gb 3000mhz ram
    GPU: RTX 2080ti
    Hard drive: M.2 SSD 500gb 970 EVO
    Resolution: 1920x1080
    Intel:
CPU: 9900k (locked at 5GHz all cores)
    Memory: 4x8 32gb 3000mhz ram
    GPU: RTX 2080ti
    Hard drive: M.2 SSD 500gb 970 EVO
    Resolution: 1920x1080

Stockfish chess engine just has to be tested on this beast. It can definitely peg any chip...all cores all threads. Latest compiles: abrok.eu/stockfish/ I tend to get better results from the "modern" build than the "Hazwell" build on my Rizen chip. So you probably need to check both builds. Tom's may have messed this up. I suggest depth 36, 32gb of RAM, and you can test with as many threads as you want. talkchess.com/forum3/viewtopic.php?t=43583
It is a simple command line.
Of course, there are chess GUIs. Where you can try out particular positions. The command line benchmark will be evaluating the start position...which for these purposes is just fine. Here is a good free GUI: www.playwitharena.de/

I've watched overclocking tutorials, but they seem to be chip specific and we are supposed to extrapolate the taught information to our own custom rig, but I'm skittish about trying to overclock such an expensive CPU for fear of catastrophic failure... This people that you're talking with them right now are 90 percent content creators caz gamers dont give a shit about this stuffs they only cares about fps and all of us know that i7 and ryzen 7 is enough for them. But some one like me that needs to run unreal engine on one monitor and photoshop and after effect on the other one im sure threadripper is the best deal for them i already got 2950x on msi tr4 and im getting 4.8 ghz on all cores and thats goddamn good something that I'm sure 9900k cant handle it. Just stop getting paid from intel. I tought its only linus . Any way you are right about bsod and memory problems on start of second and first generation of threadripper but after a bios update everything solved like butter so dont scare people's about that. I would love it if (when benchmarking and comparing CPUs) Jay, Steve, Paul etc... Would include the cost of the minimum corresponding Mobo/Cooler combo needed (to hit the benchmarked numbers).
*EG - Mobo's that pair with Intel CPUs tend to be more expensive and are less likely to be upgradable (due to their socket and chipsets), then you have the new TR, the 3960X etc, that will already have expensive mobo's to start of with, but will cost even more with it's new socket.
I think you all get my point. It's like comparing Computer case prices without looking to see how many case fans they need (vs what they come with) A $70 case that still needs 4 fans is now a $110-140 case. Where a $100 case that doesn't is now a better deal.
So a $750 CPU that still uses AM4 is great, but if it needs a 360mm AIO or custom loop then that turns it into a $1000+ CPU, if it needs a board with great VRAM then even more. While I know price fluctuations will make exact cost comps impossible - a simple baseline would be wonderful.

The games would freeze as soon as I starting trying to play after I had loaded them. Then it would freeze as well when just running winamp/WMP in the background while playing a game. After many freezes & googling I remembered that Nvidia (A holes) brought out drives that would "enhance" the graphics card that would run games ment for RTX cards... So I went to Gigabyte, downloaded the nvidia drivers on there website & EVERYTHING Runs AWESOME again & I have no issues what so ever... Just wondering if others experence issues with Nvidia's latest drives that don't have RTX cards
