I love watching your vids for better or worse......I digress. I have to say you butchered that pc. Coming from someone who likes taking shitty cheap chassis and making them triple A; it was painful to watch, but at the end of the video I learned something. You suck at pc modding and you're dremel skills are atrocious. Side note, I could build a banging gpu side mount ventilation, decked out with RGB and achieve ambient temperatures for $60. Thanks!

Back in the day (around 2000/-01) I decided I wanted better airflow around my GPU (Asus V6800 Pure - GeForce DDR), so I drilled a bunch of holes in a hexagonal pattern about the size of an 80mm fan in the side of the case and mounted an 80mm fan behind using some modified slot covers. The result wasn't at all what I expected. When I booted the machine, I got green and purple artifacts all over the screen, so I thought I had somehow killed the card. I then decided to OC the heck out of it, as the card was toast anyway. Well, when I rebooted the machine, the artifacts were gone and everything ran fine. It seems like the card wasn't happy at low temperatures. :P

dude choking a hole that small doesn't matter the fan draws in the same amount of cubic feet of air , just trough a slightly smaller hole so the only effect it has is a slight faster airflow, because the air moved by the cooler remains the same the atmospheric air pressure remains the same, the hole got slightly smaller , so the only number left that can change is the rate of flow ..
and getting more flow into the cooler and that is actually good.
there might be a bid of extra stress on the coolers electric motor but with a choke that small thats pretty much neglectable

  • Kernelpickle
    Kernelpickle Uukausi sitten

Why even bother with a permanent mod for the test?!
He could’ve (and should’ve) just used a random piece of cardboard, plywood or any other thing that was about the size of the case, fastened it into place (maybe with lots of tape), and then you’d have a perfectly workable solution that you can throw away if it didn’t work.
That said, I wish he would’ve gone into more detail about the type of cooler that would actually work as a bolt on replacement for a 5700XT-because I’ve got one, and I’m happy with the performance, and wish it wasn’t as loud.

Should a mounted a fan over the hole to feed more air in, instead of the vacuum/blower.

  • Alex Marks
    Alex Marks Uukausi sitten

If I'm not mistaken, the fan pulls air in and exhausts out the vents in the back. So that 2 to 3" neck s actually necking up so shouldn't cause any issues with airflow restriction. What I'd like to see is mod a case with a small slit in it to fit a PCIe riser for the graphics card and then add mounting wholes and put the whole graphics card on the outside of the case. Combine that with a low profile CPU fan and a thin case and you could fit alot of power into a small for factor with a partial protrusion. Or, modify the case to dip in around the graphics card while using the same riser to mount the card fans facing out (rather than down) so that the outside of the card is still flush with the outside of the case. Could potentially do this for a CPU fan as well and provide fresh air to both.🤔

I have an MSI r9 290 Twin Frozr that runs hot as hell all the time. When the temps go over 90C my system usually locks up. I solved the problem by taking the side panel off and setting it next to my homes central air vent. Whenever I play a game I have to run the AC in the summer or run the vented air in the Wisconsin fall/winters. You'd think my electric bill would be horrific, but its not really that bad. My homes central air keeps my GPU between 50 to 70C. How's that for a stupid mod?

LOL Thanks for the heads up on Vice Grip Garage. A guy watched a video on one of his favorite classics, and proceeded to laugh himself sick. P.S a guy remembers when the housing to bring cool air in was a thing on cases. Instead of PVC would flexible tubing be a better choice to fight resistance? Just a thought. Ok then real good thanks for the video and mind yerself.
