want to know, do you think I can mount intake fan of maybe... 120mm or 140mm at the bottom; to get fresh air of the GPU ROG 2080Ti OC? I don't plan to go vertically, but just normally plug into the PCIe. Can it work? the air flow is weird, and I want to aid in the air flow to this. Can someone guide me? The Shop retailer is suggesting meshify C to me as well, but it looks like is going to be Hot for the GPU when I am already pairing my system with 3950X. So is ratarded to for a temp that easily go past 60% right in the beginning. Need help, SOS. I did am going to have close loop water cool for the CPU; but the GPU whether can get fresh air or not is quite a concern for me. Please?

  • Pastry Bear
    Pastry Bear 6 tuntia sitten

I agree. Pre commercial (1:32) that there will be a minimal temp difference. There will be some blockage from the layer of paint therefore hindering air flow so there will be a slight difference.

I wonder if you used engine paint if there would of been any difference at all. Engine paint is not supposed to hold the heat in like regular paint.

  • Norman Black

Just paint the top and the sides. The visible part(s). Many coolers are solid on the sides making it easy to paint that keeping the main surfaces clear from paint. One face of the cooler is covered by he fan and the other/back face is facing the case rear with not much space between that and the rear exhaust fan. Hard(er) to see. This is the more common cooler arrangement. In your case the cooler was the opposite. Still the fan covers one face.

  • JackBN

There are studies that have been done on black intercoolers. Black intercoolers radiate their heat better when there is no air running over them, but with air running over them they perform less as their unpainted versions. An example with some science in it. fichannel.info/videot/s5ako52OhpWDs2g

For an extra $4.00 a can of spray paint for "engine ceramic enamel paint" you won't see a difference in temps, it will take a full day for it to completely dry though. You can buy it at any car parts store. and they come in 100's of different colors. Same paint used on the cooler shown in the being of this video. link to paint: shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/duplicolor-engine-enamel-chevrolet-orange-12-oz-aerosol-de1620/7140517-P?searchTerm=engine+enamel+paint

I remember a similar test with cars that were turbocharged back in the late 90’s - especially with Honda’s- painting their intercoolers black to be more stealthy. The same result happened. In real world data logging the temperature difference was negligible. In dyno testing and doing repeated back to back runs with no cooldown, there was a significant difference in temps. Physics doesn’t lie. Will you see a change? Yes. Is it worth doing now that you know what the impact is? That is entirely up to you to decide.

Early prediction... light coat, no difference... thick coat should reduce the airflow through the fins and temps should rise... also, further thoughts... a black cooler might absorb heat from the inside of the case more than a silver one would... but that’s speculation

Noctua had mentioned that they were having trouble finding a color compound that would give them the performance they were looking for and that they could use to "color" their heatsinks, because of the results jay gave and I think they know what they were doing. 3 degrees does not seem like much, but if we multiply it by the time of use it becomes something VERY SERIOUS to consider.
